President of the European Council calls for renewed negotiations

The President of the EU’s European Council, Charles Michel, has called for a resumption of negotiations without preconditions.

‘The humanitarian ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan is an essential step towards deescalation. I call on parties to observe [the] ceasefire and to avoid further violence and putting civilians at risk. Negotiations without preconditions must resume without delay.’

Armenian Foreign Minister to meet with Lavrov and OSCE Minsk Group representatives

Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan will meet with Russian Foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs — France, Russia and the US — tomorrow in Moscow. 

France’s representative told Russian news agency Ria Novosti that the Minsk Group is preparing proposals for a resumption of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. 

Aliyev vows ‘befitting retaliation’ to Ganja

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has vowed that there will be a ‘befitting retaliation’ to last night’s attack on Ganja in a post on Twitter.

‘Armenia grossly violated the ceasefire regime and fired on civilians in the city of Ganja with rockets. This is a war crime and a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions’, he wrote. 

‘Armenia’s political-military leadership bears responsibility for perpetrated crimes. The Azerbaijani side will give a befitting retaliation!’.

Earlier today Azerbaijan reported that the city of Ganja was hit by missile fire, taking the lives of 9 civilians.

Azerbaijan: 41 civilians killed so far 

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan reports that 41 civilians have been killed and 205 injured since the fighting began. As of yesterday, the authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have reported 20 civilians killed and 101 injured.

Armenia: 25 more soldiers dead

The Armenian Unified Infocenter has reported 25 more military fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths among the armed forces to 429. 

Azerbaijan is yet to release any information about the number of deaths among its soldiers.

Ganja fatalities rise to nine

Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor has revised the casualty figures in Ganja. The authorities say nine civilians were killed by a missile strike on the city last night.

Shelling continues overnight

Shelling continued overnight despite a ceasefire agreed between the two sides in Moscow. 

The capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, Stepanakert, came under fire several times. Azerbaijan reported that the cities of Ganja and Mingachevir were hit by missile fire. Azerbaijani Presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev reported that seven people died in the strike on Ganja after a residential building was hit.
