Three hectares of forest in the Tlyarata District of Daghestan are ablaze, and the Ministry of Emergencies has warned that there is a danger of new fires breaking out.

The fire started on the evening of 23 August in a forest 1.5 kilometres from the village of Anada.

A source from Daghestan’s Ministry of Emergencies told OC Media that there is no danger of the fire spreading further, but that it is difficult for firefighters to reach the fire.

‘The forest is burning on the mountainside where it is difficult for the firefighters to reach. The area there is rocky, and it is difficult to hold fire-fighting equipment. There are villages on several slopes of the mountain. The closest village is in 1.5 kilometers away. There is no danger that the fire will reach this village’, the source at the ministry said.

The ministry has warned there is a high probability of more fires breaking out, especially in low-lying areas of the republic.

There is also a risk of fire in Ingushetia, Karachay–Cherkessia, and in the steppe regions of North Ossetia.

Emergency services have urged people not to go into the forest, and not to start bonfires or set fire to dry grass.
