On 13 March, three Azerbaijani citizens were detained in an inspection conducted by Daghestan’s Prosecutor’s Office in the central Daghestani town of Buynaksk. The inspection is a part of the authorities’ continuing crackdown on illegal workers.
A source in Daghestan’s police told OC Media that all the detainees worked on a construction site for a new multi-storey building. According to the source, the migrants worked illegally for the ‘Investment and Construction Company’.
‘After the violations of the law were uncovered, three administrative cases were brought against the construction company. The violators should be held accountable for illegally bringing foreign citizens to work in Russia. All three detained Azerbaijani citizens will pay a fine for working without a proper permit as well’, the source said.
The authorities continue to search for illegal migrants as well as companies who hire them without the necessary permit. In early March, Daghestan’s migration service and police conducted a large-scale inspection in Makhachkala’s central market. In February, a major raid took place in the city of Derbent, in which 200 Azerbaijani citizens were detained; 30 of them were deported.
