A former school guard sacked in December for having sex with a pupil, was arrested on 27 January.
The Prosecutor's Office has released a short statement, according to which the man is accused of consciously having sex with a minor under the age of 16.
‘The investigation revealed that the guard wrote to the 15-year-old girl, his neighbour and a pupil at the school where he worked, and asked her to meet in the beginning of September’, the statement reads.
‘He had sexual intercourse with her at the deserted area’, it continues.
The man was arrested after a warrant was issued by the court. The Prosecutor's Office argued for for the man to remain in pretrial detention, however, he was granted ₾10,000 ($3,700) bail.
If convicted he will face 7–9 years in prison.
The case emerged several days ago when local media broke the story that a 40-year-old man had had intercourse with a 15-year-old pupil, and that the girl is now pregnant. It was reported that the girl’s parents wanted to allow the man to marry her instead of pressing charges against him.
